How to Get Involved

Levels of Participation

Levels of involvement for teachers in the LAO project

There are the following potential levels of involvement within the Learning about Others Learning about Ourselves (LAO) project using the Open Space for Dialogue and Enquiry (OSDE) methodology:

Level 3: Any individual enquiries however loosely related to the Open Space for Dialogue and Enquiry methodology. The methodology is applicable to many training scenarios and school based issues. Please consult us if you are looking for an innovative interactive method that your providers could replicate.

Level 2: 2 or more units of enquiry (each enquiry should be for a minimum of 1 hour, if at all possible) This could take place as a lesson in the normal school timetable, for an event or as part of a training session for non - school groups. Written feedback from staff at the end of this work (there will be a feedback template provided before any units are started)

Level 1: Involvement in the formal research element of the project requires:
10 hours of enquiry within the classroom (can be carried out over a period of time)
Staff and pupils/students completing the research diaries at the beginning, middle and end of these 10 hours
Staff and pupils being involved in focus group interviews to evaluate your experience of participation.

Training Opportunities

We highly recommend that you take one of the OSDE training sessions offered by CSSGJ The Centre for the study of Social and Global Justice, LINK and other institutions.

OSDE level 1 will give you the opportunity to explore and discuss the basics of creating and facilitating spaces.

OSDE level 2 will give you some practice in training other facilitators and

OSDE level 3 is designed as a formal (more academic) induction to theory and research developments.

The idea behind these courses is to provide an appropriate level of support to your choice of involvement.

If you would like to know more about the research methodology in order to apply it to a different field of interest please also use the contact details on the OSDE website.
